Signal Flow in the Current Torque Metering Systems

  • Monitor provides variable DC output to ESC.
  • ESC generates AC and drives the stator power coil.
  • Rotor power coil energizes the in-shaft electronics.

  • Strain gages output voltage proportional to torque.
  • In-shaft electronics convert voltage to frequency.
  • Frequency is driven into rotor signal coil.
  • ESC adapts to signal coil level and converts levels for long distance transmission.
  • ESC converts Hall-Effect sensor signal levels (pulse per rev) for long distance transmission.
  • Monitor receives the torque signal, counts the pulses (measures the frequency).
