Steam Turbine Casing Closure
- Eliminate Stud Heater & Slug Wrench Method
- 75% Reduction In Installation Times
- Improved Safety Measures
- Repeatable, Uniform, Controlled Loading
- Eliminate Thread Galling
- Shorter Turnarounds

Problem:
Installation of steam turbine split line casing studs took a two-man crew (24) hours to install using a conventional stud heater and slug wrench method. Inconel studs, required for the 950 deg. F service, were prone to thread galling. Bolt stretch accuracy was difficult to maintain across the complete stud pattern.

Solution:
Original equipment replaced with Riverhawk Hydraulic Rod Tensioning (HRT) System. Installation of studs was reduced by approximately 75%. A two-man crew accomplished closure in (6) hours in intervals of 50% and the final 100% load. The Inconel HRT’s along with the Riverhawk supplied 3” diameter studs achieved a high degree of accuracy in a short amount of time.
